The Mighty Warriors Have Returned Home...

Okay...Joe and I made it safely back from our trek across the country. Woohoo. Always happy to make it home in one piece...

Okay, so I will just try to catch up a little at a time on telling you the exploits of our vacation.

Friday, October 10th: Joe, Flat Stanley and I all left Los Angeles for Washington DC.

We stayed at the Residence Inn in Manassas, VA that night.

Saturday, October 11th: After breakfast we trekked all the way to Manassas National Battlefield Park...from our hotel we only had to make one turn, besides driveways...we were very close to it.

It was very interesting. This coming from the girl who would have failed history in high school had it not been for the fact that I was the teacher's aid in fourth period and in the class 6th period...after I graded all the test, etc. But I digress. They had this really neat electronic map that showed the troop movements from that battle...the first battle of the civil war.

From there we headed over to Front Royal, VA where the north entrance to Shennandoah National Park is...also the start of the Skyline Drive. It was very pretty. The leaves had started to change for fall. If you don't make any stops the whole 105 miles drive should take you about 3 hours due to the 35 mph speed limit. It took us 7 or so. Yep, you guess it...we stopped. Not only that, we detoured.

We left the drive at the west entrance to it to go to Luray, VA and the famous Luray Cavern. I happen to have a thing for caves. Not sure why but I go to them every chance I get. Virginia happens to have a lot of them, so Joe made me pick just one to go to. The cavern itself was nice, but since it was a Saturday it was so stinkin' crowded that we could not enjoy it the way I would have liked. The cave is at a temperature of 54 degrees year round...that is of course unless they have groups of 45 people going in every 5 minutes. Then it is incredibly warm and humid. I did get some good pictures though. I can look at them while I'm at home in my air conditioned house and pretend that it was cooler. Oh, well.

We got back over to the Skyline Drive and finished it just east of Waynesboro, where we stayed at the Best Western. Okay...that was enough excitement for one day...unless I get bored I'll write more tomorrow.

Blogging for the Sake of Blogging

Well...I never really was a drinker...had my first alcohol for the year Saturday night. And I never saw the point in doing drugs. But, I guess I just jumped on the old band wagon when I decided to be a blogger.

My niece Suzanne tells me that I have a story for every occassion...and I'll admit that she isn't the first one to say it. So, why can't I ever come up with something to write about.

Okay, maybe a little background on me:
I was born a poor black child...oh, wait, that was Steve Martin in "The Jerk".
Okay, so I was born in Southern California long enough ago that it hurts to think about it...not so long ago that its appropriate for me to complain yet. I was the fourth and final child born. My older siblings will no doubt say that I got away with murder. I don't think so...okay...maybe a little assault...but not murder.

I graduated high school okay. I started going to community college. Managed to finish one semester...even made the dean's honor roll. Then I met a boy and somehow I became a complete and total idiot and went out with him instead of going to classes. Eventually having to join the work force. Ugh. It so wasn't worth it. Later I met Gabe, my first husband...obviously by that description of him you can tell it didn't go well. I thought we were fine...right up until the time I found out he was sleeping with someone else and taking anabolic steroids. Managed to live alone for a little while after that. Then I had the worst birthday ever. Yikes was that a crappy year. My divorce had just been final two months prior (we were separated for 1 1/2 years before the divorce went thru), I was having a hard time at work, my roommate had transferred jobs and left, I couldn't afford to live in San Diego anymore, I had to go home to my parents...then there was the birthday. I was already in a not so great mood. Then my brother Gary decides to have Christmas Brunch that year instead of doing the big Christmas dinner they had been doing. Oh, yeah, did I mention that my birthday is Christmas day? Anyway, I drove up from San Diego for Christmas. We go to Gary's and have Christmas Brunch. And I admit that it was good. Had a good time. Enjoyed seeing everyone. And I'm not just saying that because they might read this blog. Anyway...at 1 pm its obvious that the event was over. So, I went back to my parent's house with them. My dad and I just kind of look at each other and say...ok, what are we going to do for dinner. We hadn't even thought about it ahead of time. We had no food at the house to cook. We called around to several places but they were closed...of course. We then took to random driving trying to find something. The day culminated with dinner at Kenny Roger's Roasters. It was a sad day in Mudville. Mighty Casey had struck out. I think that was the only time I ever ate there.

Jump ahead a year and that is when I met Joe. Just in time for my next birthday. Which because of him is the best birthday I have ever had. Three years later we were married. We've been happily married for three years now. He is wonderful. I don't know what I would do without him. I know that I wouldn't have survived my dad's death almost 5 years ago if it weren't for him and his family for that matter. He had lost both his parents before I met him.

Now we are getting ready for a road trip/vacation. I say that because we are flying somewhere...going on a roadtrip for the first half of the time, then going to a major city for a vacation till we fly home. We are both really looking forward to it.

Well, I have more packing to do so I better end this.

To Blog or Not to Blog...

Okay...so I suck at this. And...looking at the blog's in my favorite blog section I can see that my family sucks at this, too. Must be a hereditary thing. I'm sure something has gone on worth while to write about. Just not sure what it is.

Joe and I are getting ready to take a much needed vacation. Will plan on updating the world fully after we get back. Maybe while we are gone if I come across a computer with access to the internet.
